In the first quarter of 2026, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at Constant Prices in Saudi Arabia was 1.2 trillion.

In July 2026 a value of 1.8% was registered in inflation measured by the consumer price index (CPI). The commodity with the highest annual variation compared to the same month of previous year was housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, going from 6.2% in July 2025 to 4.2% in July 2026.

The merchandise exports in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in June 2026 were 87.8 billion, 9.2% lower than previous month. The merchandise imports were 70.4 billion, 5.8% lower than previous month. As a result, the trade balance in June 2026 was 17.3 billion.

Saudi Arabia’s Industrial Production Index increased by 4.3% in June 2026 compared to previous month.

Mining and Quarrying increased by 5.0% in June 2026 compared to the previous month, while Manufacturing Industry increased by 1.1%. Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply recorded an increase of 25.4% and Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities had an increase of 3.9%.

Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI)

In July 2026, the Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) for Saudi Arabia recorded a value of 53.1, below the previous month's figure of 53.3.

The total bank deposits reached 2,925.8 billion during 2025. The distribution of these deposits were concentrated mainly on demand deposits ( 1,432.3 billion), followed by time deposits & savings ( 1,173.8 billion) and quasi-money ( 319.7 billion).

Bank Credits

During 2025, the bank credits in Saudi Arabia reached a total value of 3,296.2 billion. Out of this total, 1,434 billion were allocated to personal loans, 393.5 billion to real estate activities, and 217.6 billion to electricity, gas and water supplies, making these three activities the top three in terms of credit allocation.

In 2025, a total of 14,674 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) were registered in Saudi Arabia, indicating a 2.7% decrease compared to the previous year.

External Sector & International Trade

Trade Balance

In June 2026, merchandise exports reached 87.8 billion, while merchandise imports were 70.4 billion. As a result, the trade balance resulted in a surplus of 17.3 billion.

In first quarter of 2026, exports of services reached 71.3 billion, while imports of services amounted to 111.4 billion. As a result, the trade balance in services recorded a deficit of 40.1 billion.

In the first quarter of 2026, total services exports reached 57.8 billion. The main services traded were Travel ( 44.3 billion), Transport ( 10.9 billion), and Telecommunications, computer, and information services ( 2.6 billion).

Current Account Balance

In 2025, the value of goods and services totaled 83.1 billion, with primary income at 40.0 billion and a secondary income deficit of -245.9 billion.

Reserve Assets

In the second quarter of 2026, the reserve assets of Saudi Arabia amounted to a total of 1.9 trillion. Out of this total, 1.6 billion are stored in monetary gold, 78.6 billion in SDR, 13.2 billion in reserve position in the IMF, 647.6 billion in foreign currency and deposits abroad, and 1.1 trillion in investments in foreign securities.

The total reserve assets have presented an overall decrease of 0.4% compared to the previous quarter.

FDI Inflows and Outflows

During the first quarter of 2026, the FDI net inflow amounted to 23.1 billion, showing a decrease by 52.3% compared to the previous quarter.

On the other hand, the FDI net outflow amounted to 29.5 billion presenting an increase of 55.8% compared to the previous quarter.

In 2025 workers' remittances reached an amount of 217.4 billion, being higher in 26.9% than the previous year.

Oil Prices

In 2025, the real price of Arabian Light oil was $67.3 per barrel.

Compared to North Sea (Brent) oil, whose price was $65.2, Arabian Light oil was priced 3.2% higher, while when compared to OPEC basket oil whose price was $65.8, Arabian Light oil was priced 2.2% higher.

Saudi Exports by Destination

Saudi exports of crude oil in 2021 reached 2,273 million barrels. The main destination of these exports was Asia and Far East, accounting for 77.0% of the total exports, followed by Western Europe (8.4%), North America (7.1%), Middle East (3.5%), Africa (2.8%), and South America (1.1%).

In the first quarter of 2026, the average monthly wage per paid employee in main work was 5.8 thousand among the total population. This figure amounted to 5.9 thousand for men and 5.5 thousand for women.

Employees Registered in GOSI & Civil Services

In the first quarter of 2026, 1,836,196 of female employees were registered in GOSI, 511,282 in Civil Services and 1,535,934 as domestic workers, reaching a total of 3,883,412 female workers in Saudi Arabia. For its part, 12,110,997 of male employees were registered in GOSI, 636,854 in Civil Services and 2,759,463 as domestic workers, for a total of 15,507,314 male workers.

The regions that presented the highest number of female employees registered in GOSI and Civil Services were Al-Riyadh (1,160,934 employees), Makkah Al-Mokarramah (406,341 employees), and Eastern Region (328,787 employees). In the case of male employees, the regions with the highest number of registered workers were Al-Riyadh (6,437,007 employees), Eastern Region (2,240,559 employees), and Makkah Al-Mokarramah (1,964,001 employees).

During the first quarter of 2026, the occupations that registered the highest number of employees in Saudi Arabia were Elementary occupations (6,030,330 employees), Professionals (1,937,946 employees), and Plant and machine operators, and assemblers (1,431,263 employees).

During the first quarter of 2026, the economic activities that registered the highest number of employees in Saudi Arabia were Construction (3,405,561 employees), Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (1,816,403 employees), and Administrative and support service activities (1,518,486 employees).

Unemployment Rate

In the first quarter of 2026, the unemployment rate of Saudis in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reached 6.4%. In particular, the Saudi female unemployment rate was 9.0%, while the Saudi male unemployment rate was 4.9%.

Unemployment Rate by Age

Youth unemployment refers to the share of the labor force ages 15-24 without work but available for and seeking employment.

In the first quarter of 2026, the highest unemployment rate for Saudi women was recorded for those with an education level of bachelor’s or equivalent level (10.8%). On the other hand, the highest unemployment rate in Saudi men was registered in those who had an educational level of lower secondary education (8.7%).

Job Seekers

In 2022 the number of job seekers of Saudi Arabia was 324,936. The regions that concentrated the largest number of job seekers were Al-Riyadh (80,005 job seekers), Makkah Al-Mokarramah (73,633 job seekers), and Eastern Region (43,927 job seekers).

Housing Units

In 2025, the number of housing units occupied by Saudi households in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were distributed as follows: 2,108,093 were an apartment (46.8% of the total), 1,329,847 were a villa (29.5% of the total), 557,431 were a traditional house (12.4% of the total), 491,366 were an a floor (10.9% of the total), and 19,079 were others (0.4% of the total).

Dwellings

Most total dwellings concentrate in Makkah Al-Mokarramah (3,260,806 dwellings, 26.3% of the total), Al-Riyadh (3,123,246 dwellings, 25.2% of the total), and Eastern Region (1,902,754 dwellings, 15.3% of the total).

In 2023, there were a total of 547,875 workers registered in the health sector in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The personnel was distributed as follows: 218,107 nurses, 153,688 assistant health employees, 139,270 physicians, and 36,810 pharmacists.

In 2022, the average Saudi life expectancy was 77.9 years, being 80.9 years for females and 75.3 years for males.

Compared to the previous year, the overall life expectancy increased by 1.9 years, with female life expectancy showing an increase of 1.7 years, while male life expectancy increased by 2 years.

Students, Schools & Teachers

In 2025, the total number of students in Saudi Arabia was 6,409,461. The administrative regions with the highest number of students were Al-Riyadh (1,553,462 students), Makkah Al-Mokarramah (1,424,092 students), and Eastern Region (952,912 students).

Illiteracy Rate

In 2017, the illiteracy rate for females in Saudi Arabia was 7.3%, while the illiteracy rate among males was 2.9%. Jazan region recorded the highest illiteracy rate among females at 18.1%, also registering the highest illiteracy rate among males at 6.9%.

Expenditures on Education

In 2017, the highest expenditure on education was registered in Al-Riyadh with 6.3 billion, distributed in tuition fees ( 3.2 billion), other ( 1.3 billion), school supplies ( 1.1 billion), school transfer ( 408.5 million), and private tuition ( 259.6 million).

In 2024, 181,889 graduates were registered in Bachelor degree, 181,889 graduates in Bachelor degree, 80,642 graduates in Intermediate Diploma, 14,054 graduates in Master, 4,178 graduates in Higher Diploma, 1,911 graduates in Ph.D., and 118 graduates in Fellowship.

Individuals with One Severe or Unable Disability

In 2023, the administrative areas with the highest percentage of individuals with one disability (severe or unable) were Al-Riyadh (14.8%), Makkah Al-Mokarramah (14.7%), and Eastern Region (14.5%).

In 2023, among individuals with disabilities aged 2 years and over, 41.5% reported having one disability, while the remaining 58.5% had multiple disabilities.

In 2023, of the total number of men aged 2 to 4 years with disabilities, 29.2% suffered from one disability while the remaining 70.8% suffered from multiple disabilities.

In the case of women in that age range, 35.0% suffered from one disability and 65.0% suffered from multiple disabilities.

The most prevalent disabilities among individuals aged 2 to 4 years were vision (31.6% of the total individuals with disabilities in that age range), mobility (walking) (29.0%), and communication  (17.5%).

Individuals with Disabilities (Age 15+) by Work Status and Gender

The most prevalent work statuses among individuals with disabilities in 2023 were unable to work  (27.6% of the total working-age individuals with disabilities), retired  (19.6%), and free for housework  (15.8%).

Individuals with Disabilities (Age 2+) by Cause and Gender

In 2023, the main causes of disability in the population were due to illness (39.2%), congenital factors (26.9%) and aging (16.1%).

Individuals with Disabilities (Age 2+) Using Assistive Devices

In 2023, glasses were used as an assistive device by 63.4% of the disabled population, hearing by 10.3% and 26.3% of the disabled population used equipment or received assistance to walk.

On the other hand, the population with disabilities even with the use of glasses reached 52.1% of the total number of individuals with disabilities, the population affected even with hearing aid was 10.9% and 37.0% suffered from disabilities even using equipment or receiving help to walk.

Individuals with Disabilities (Age 2+) Needing Supporting Tools

In 2023, the most needed types of supporting tools for the disabled population were glasses (37.6%), manual / electric wheelchair (27.7%), and hearing aid (10.7%).

Types and Levels of Difficulty

Analyzing the types and levels of difficulty, a significant percentage of the total people with disabilities suffered from vision problems (mild), corresponding to 517,774 people.

In 2023, the percentage of people with mild difficulties reached 2.8%. The age range of 80+ years concentrated the greatest number of people with mild difficulties (26.6% of the total population in that age range).

In 2023, the male population with disabilities was concentrated in the age range of 5 - 9 years, with 29,468 men, corresponding to 9.1% of the total male population affected.
