Overview

Agriculture, forestry and fishing

In the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector, the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by 2.6% in second quarter of 2026 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The seasonally adjusted real GDP increased by 2.7%, while the nominal GDP increased by 5.0% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

Exports from the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector in 2025 grew by 22.3% compared to the previous year, while imports from the sector grew by 3.2%. As a result, the trade balance was ⃁ -33.2 billion, 1.4% lower than the previous year.

Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector achieved positive growth in the foreign direct investment (FDI) stock at the end of 2024, which amounted to ⃁ 2.3 billion, compared to the FDI stock of 2023, which was ⃁ 2.2 billion.

The inflows of FDI in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector decreased by 2.3% in 2024 compared to the previous year, whereas the outflows of FDI showed an increase of 2,076.7% compared to previous period. Thus, the net flows amounted to ⃁ 129.6 million in 2024, while in 2023, it recorded ⃁ 153.9 million.

The overall distribution of the employed in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector reached 2.0% in first quarter of 2026, increased from last quarter by 0.52 percentage points (pp) and decreased from a year ago by 0.9 pp.

For its part, the average weekly working hours was 48.2 hours in the third quarter of 2023, registering a decrease of 2.2% compared to the previous period and an increase of 1.1% compared to the same quarter of 2022.

Real Sector Indicators

Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

In the second quarter of 2026, the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Agriculture, forestry and fishing amounted to ⃁ 30.9 billion. Additionally, the nominal GDP recorded a value of ⃁ 31.9 billion, while the seasonally adjusted real GDP stood at ⃁ 31.0 billion.

Commercial Bank Credit

During July 2026, the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector secured ⃁ 9.8 billion in commercial bank credits, lower by 4.8% than the value of the previous month and lower by 31.8% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Finance Companies' Credit to Non-Retail

In 2025, the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector recorded ⃁ 377.6 million in finance company credit to non-retail, marking a 213% increase compared to the previous year.

External Sector & International Trade

Exports and Imports

Exports of the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector reached ⃁ 3.8 billion in 2025. The primary destinations for these exports were United Arab Emirates (⃁ 1.0 billion), State of Kuwait (⃁ 406.6 million), and Republic of Yemen (⃁ 353.6 million).

Trade Balance

In April 2026, the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector recorded exports amounting ⃁ 388.8 million and imports totaling ⃁ 2.9 billion, resulting in a trade balance deficit of ⃁ 2.5 billion.

FDI Stock

In 2024, the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock reached ⃁ 2.3 billion, marking an increased of 6% compared to the previous year.

FDI Flow

In 2024, the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Inflow amounted to ⃁ 151.4 million, while the FDI Outflow stood at ⃁ 21.8 million. Consequently, the FDI Net Inflow was ⃁ 129.6 million, reflecting a decreased of 15.8% compared to the previous year.

FDI inflows: Financial transactions that arise between the FDI institution, direct investors and related companies outside the Saudi economy, which occur during a certain period of time, and form inflows when their positive impact appears in excess of equity and/or debt instruments.

FDI outflows: These are financial transactions that arise between the Foreign Direct Investment Corporation, direct investors, and related companies outside the Saudi economy, and which occur during a certain period of time. They are outflows when their impact appears in a decrease in the side of obligations, such as paid dividends or repayment of loans and credit receivables, or when the foreign shareholder exits.

FDI net inflow: It represents the difference between inflows and outflows of foreign direct investment inflows.

Labor Market

Distribution of the Employed

In the first quarter of 2026, the percentage distribution of employed people in Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector reached 2.0%, with 2.3% for men and 0.5% for women.

Working Hours

During the third quarter of 2023, the average hours worked by Saudi men were 41.4, compared to 49.8 hours for non-Saudi men. Likewise, Saudi women averaged 39.9 hours, while non-Saudi women worked an average of 45 hours.

Social Insurance (GOSI)

During the first quarter of 2026, a total of 247,346 participants on the job Subject to the rules and regulations of social insurance were registered in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector, with 96.0% being men (237,500 participants) and 4.0% women (9,846 participants).

On-the-job Subscribers in the Private Sector

In 2022 on-the-job subscribers in the private sector was 13,206 for Saudi men and 376,581 for non-Saudi men. On-the-job subscribers was 9,424 for saudi women and 2,185 for non-Saudi women.

In 2018, there were 89,758 establishments registered in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector, of which 93.7% had less than 5 employees, 5.8% had between 5 and 19 employees and 0.5% had more than 20 employees.

Digital Economy

Digital Economy Indicators

According to the Digital Economy Survey carried out by the General Authority for Statistics in 2022, in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing sector the use of using systems or devices connected to the Internet (50.5%) and having account on social media platforms (48.1%) are highlighted as the most relevant indicators of adoption and use of the digital economy.
